Shuping Foundation Executive Committee held its 19th meeting in the office of Shanghai Shuping Alumni Association on April 13th, 2013. 16 committee members attended the meeting with 7 students and staff members invited as nonvoting delegates. Mr. George Koo presided over the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, all attendees mourned over the recent death of a Shuping Scholar in Hong Kong, Mr. TAN Wenhan and a committee member, Mr. XUAN Xiangliu whose great contributions to the operation of Shuping Scholarship was highly praised.

During the meeting, Mr. ZHANG Tao and Mr. WANG Xiaofeng, president and vice president of Beijing Shuping Alumni Association as well as Mr. CHENG Yihua, president of Shanghai Shuping Alumni Association delivered the Alumni Association work reports of year 2012 both in Beijing and Shanghai, the work plan for year 2013, financial reports of year 2012 and the annual budget for year 2013. Mr. CHENG Yihua gave financial reports of 2012 and the budget plan for 2013 of the Shuping Foundation Executive Committee. The Executive Committee gave the associations credit for their efforts in improving scholarship management, scholars’ education, network and service.

Meanwhile, issues on further cooperation with Shanghai Education Development Foundation (SEDF) were also discussed. Committee members, Mr. WANG Xiaofeng and Jiaqing KOO reported the latest progress of the websites of the associations in Beijing and Shanghai and of the Shuping Scholarship. YANG Ying, Shanghai Alumni Association member, introduced the reconstruction plan for the Shuping Museum.

HAN Ying, Beijing Alumni Association member, briefed the meeting on the current situation of national defence students of Peking University. LI Musun introduced new developments of J. L. Koo Scholarship in the U.S. and advice was given on the specific use of this scholarship.

The resolutions of this meeting are as follows.

1. The meeting system of the Executive Committee shall be improved with higher efficiency. From the 20th meeting of the Committee onwards, the preparatory group shall deliver a detailed written report of the meeting beforehand.

2. Standardize the management of donations and expand channels of donating. Cooperation with Shanghai Education Development Foundation (SEDF) shall be enhanced and the plan to set up a special account for Shuping Scholarship under SEDF shall be discussed in detail and put into practice. 3. Improve Shuping’s platforms for publicity and alumni services. The Alumni Associations in Beijing and Shanghai shall cooperate more with each other on website construction and strengthen the alumni networks through more convenient and diversified ways.

4. Tap the potentials of Shuping Museum by strengthening its exhibiting function to enhance its social influence. Requisite renovation shall be made on the A/V room and the rear exhibition hall to increase efficiency and effect. The associations in both cities should further their cooperation on deciding the content of the Museum.

5. The associations in both cities are suggested to carry out further research on the feasibility of establishing a special scholarship awarding national defence students.

6. It is suggested that Shuping Foundation shall cooperate with Huzhou Municipal Education Department in selecting one middle school teacher to further his/her study in the US, funded by J. L. Koo Scholarship. During his/her study in the US, the teacher will be contacted by local Shuping scholars. After that, the American university will select candidates for the scholarship independently and report their decision to Shuping Foundation Executive Committee regularly.

7. The Associations in both cities shall accept scholarship application by Shuping scholars who are studying in universities and colleges outside the two cities.

8. Communications between Shuping scholars in Beijing, Shanghai and Huzhou shall be enhanced.

9. The Executive Committee approved the 2012 work report and the final account report of the Alumni Association in Shanghai and Beijing as well as the work plan and budget for year 2013.
